Journalism students from the Advanced School of Mass Communication, ASMAC, were given a rare opportunity to engage with military communication practices during a press conference held at the International School of War in Simbock, Yaounde on April 9, 2026.
The academic outing, coordinated by the Head of the Television Department, Alain Mouangue, the Director of ASMAC, Pr François Marc MODZOM, the Head of the Radio Department, Dr Blaise Testelain Nana, aimed to bridge classroom theory with real-world media engagement. Students were invited to observe and participate in a high-level briefing led by military officials, offering insight into strategic communication within defense institutions.
Held in a formal conference setting, the event brought together members of the armed forces and communication experts who addressed issues related to security, crisis management, and public information dissemination. A large visual display, including a global map, underscored the international dimension of contemporary security challenges.
For the students, the experience was both educational and practical. They had the chance to practice questioning techniques, observe professional press conduct, and better understand how sensitive information is managed and communicated to the public.
“This type of exposure is essential for shaping competent journalists,” one participant noted, emphasizing the importance of interacting with diverse institutional actors.
The initiative reflects ASMAC’s commitment to experiential learning, particularly in preparing students for complex reporting environments such as defense and security sectors.
As media continues to play a critical role in informing the public on matters of national and global importance, such engagements are invaluable in training the next generation of responsible and skilled journalists.
