ASMAC oratory contest: 20 voices compete in ASDEC club’s quest for expression and excellence

Selected candidates for the semi finals with members of the jury

The ASDEC Oratory Club of  ASMAC has officially launched its much-anticipated public speaking competition on April 14, 2026, setting the stage for a dynamic blend of expression, learning, and performance. Hosted at Hall D4 of ASMAC, the event brought together students eager to test and refine their oratory skills in a structured yet empowering environment.

Designed around a dual objective, the competition seeks, first, to provide ASMAC students with a platform to freely express their ideas, opinions, and emotions. Secondly, it aims to serve as a practical learning space where participants can develop or strengthen their public speaking abilities. Organizers emphasize that the initiative is rooted in experiential learning—the belief that consistent practice is key to mastery.

A Promising Opening Round

The opening phase of the contest took place between 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., with a total of 20 candidates stepping forward to compete, showcasing diverse perspectives and speaking styles. At the end of this first round, 15 participants were selected to advance to the next stage of the competition.

The semi-final is scheduled for April 21, where these candidates will once again take the stage in pursuit of a spot in the grand finale.

Organizers Highlight Learning and Impact

According to the organizing committee of the ASDEC Oratory Club, the competition goes beyond performance it is equally about capacity building. “We didn’t just want a contest where students come, speak, and leave. We wanted something that trains, that builds confidence, and that leaves a lasting impact,” said the president of the club, Émilie Bougem.

To achieve this, the organizers have incorporated dedicated training sessions into the competition framework. These sessions are designed to equip participants with essential skills such as speech structuring, voice control, stage presence, and audience engagement.

Two training sessions are planned: one after the semi-final and another following the final, ensuring that participants continue to learn at every stage of the process.

Final to Align with ASMAC Professional Days

While anticipation continues to build, the date of the final remains unconfirmed. ASMAC’s administration intends to align the grand finale with the institution’s upcoming professional days an event aimed at showcasing student talent and reinforcing the school’s academic and professional standing.

As the official schedule for these professional days is yet to be released, the final is expected to take place sometime after April 21.

With this initiative, the ASDEC Oratory Club positions itself as a key driver in nurturing articulate, confident, and socially engaged communicators students who are not only able to speak, but to inspire.
